देवी गौरी की जिज्ञासा पर मुनि मुद्गल द्वारा बताया गया यह सुरक्षा-कवच बालक गणेश के प्रत्येक अंग, दसों दिशाओं और हर प्रकार के संकट की रक्षा का वर्णन करता है। युद्ध, विवाद, कठिन स्थान और शत्रु-भय में विशेष रूप से इसका पाठ किया जाता है।Related by the sage Mudgala in answer to Gauri’s question, this protective armour invokes Ganesha to guard every limb of the body, all ten directions, and every kind of danger. It is especially recited in battle, dispute, difficult terrain and fear of enemies.
गौरी उवाच — एषोऽतिचपलो दैत्यान् बाल्येऽपि नाशयत्यहो। अग्रे किं कर्म कर्तेति न जाने मुनिसत्तम॥Gauri said: O foremost of sages, this restless child destroys demons even in infancy — I do not know what deeds he shall perform hereafter.
दैत्या नानाविधा दुष्टा वासुदेवेन पीडिताः। अतोऽस्य कवचं ब्रूहि येन गुप्तो भवेद् विभुः॥There are many kinds of wicked demons troubled by Vasudeva — tell me this lord’s protective armour, by which he may be kept safe.
मुद्गल उवाच — शृणु पुत्रि महाभागे कवचं सर्वसिद्धिदम्। धारणादस्य देवस्य सर्वत्र विजयी भवेत्॥Mudgala said: Listen, O fortunate daughter — this armour bestows every accomplishment; wearing it, one becomes victorious everywhere.
इस श्री गणेश कवच के ऋषि प्रजापति, छन्द अनुष्टुप् और देवता श्री गणपति हैं; धर्म, अर्थ, काम और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति के लिए इसका जप किया जाता है — ॐ गं ह्रीं श्रीं गणपतये नमः।This Ganesh Kavach’s sage is Prajapati, its metre Anushtup, its deity Shri Ganapati; it is recited for the attainment of dharma, wealth, desire and liberation — Om gam hrim shrim Ganapataye namah.

शिखां पातु महेशस्य पुत्रः पातु भालकम्। नेत्रे पातु गणाध्यक्षो गण्डौ पातु गजाननः॥
Shikham patu Maheshasya putrah patu bhalakam. Netre patu Ganadhyakshah gandau patu Gajananah.
महेश-पुत्र मेरे शिखा की रक्षा करें, भाल की रक्षा करें। गणाध्यक्ष नेत्रों की रक्षा करें, गजानन कपोलों की रक्षा करें।
May the son of Mahesha protect my crown-lock and my forehead. May the lord of the ganas protect my eyes; may the elephant-faced one protect my cheeks.
कर्णौ पात्वेकदन्तश्च नासिकां पातु विघ्नहृत्। मुखं पातु गणाधीशो जिह्वां पातु गजाननः॥
Karnau patvekadantash-cha nasikam patu Vighnahrit. Mukham patu Ganadhisho jihvam patu Gajananah.
एकदन्त दोनों कानों की रक्षा करें, विघ्नहर्ता नासिका की रक्षा करें। गणाधीश मुख की, गजानन जिह्वा की रक्षा करें।
May Ekadanta protect my ears; may the remover of obstacles protect my nose. May the lord of the ganas protect my mouth; may the elephant-faced one protect my tongue.
कण्ठं पातु गणपतिर्हृदयं पातु विघ्नराजः। बाहू पातु महाबाहुर्नाभिं पातु विनायकः॥
Kantham patu Ganapatir-hridayam patu Vighnarajah. Bahu patu Mahabahur-nabhim patu Vinayakah.
गणपति कण्ठ की, विघ्नराज हृदय की रक्षा करें। महाबाहु भुजाओं की, विनायक नाभि की रक्षा करें।
May Ganapati protect my throat; may Vighnaraja protect my heart. May the mighty-armed one protect my arms; may Vinayaka protect my navel.
कटिं पातु सुराध्यक्षो गुह्यं पातु गणेश्वरः। ऊरू पातु गजमुखः जानुनी पातु गणाधिपः॥
Katim patu suradhyakshah guhyam patu Ganeshwarah. Uru patu gajamukhah januni patu Ganadhipah.
सुराध्यक्ष कटि की, गणेश्वर गुह्य अंग की रक्षा करें। गजमुख जंघाओं की, गणाधिप घुटनों की रक्षा करें।
May the lord of the gods protect my waist; may the lord of the ganas protect my private parts. May the elephant-faced one protect my thighs; may he protect my knees.
जङ्घे पातु महातेजाः पादौ पातु विनायकः। सर्वाङ्गं पातु मे नित्यं सर्वसिद्धिप्रदायकः॥
Jangahe patu mahatejah padau patu Vinayakah. Sarvangam patu me nityam sarvasiddhipradayakah.
महातेजस्वी पिंडलियों की, विनायक चरणों की रक्षा करें। सब सिद्धियाँ देने वाले मेरे समस्त अंगों की सदा रक्षा करें।
May the greatly radiant one protect my shins; may Vinayaka protect my feet. May the giver of every accomplishment ever protect my whole body.
प्राच्यां पातु गणाध्यक्षो आग्नेय्यां विघ्ननाशनः। दक्षिणस्यामुमापुत्रो नैर्ऋत्यां तु गणेश्वरः॥
Prachyam patu Ganadhyakshah agneyyam Vighnanashanah. Dakshinasyam-Umaputro nairrityam tu Ganeshwarah.
पूर्व में गणाध्यक्ष, आग्नेय में विघ्ननाशन, दक्षिण में उमापुत्र और नैऋत्य में गणेश्वर रक्षा करें।
In the east may the lord of the ganas protect; in the south-east, the destroyer of obstacles; in the south, Uma’s son; in the south-west, the lord of the ganas.
प्रतीच्यां पातु सिद्धेशो वायव्यां गजकर्णकः। उदीच्यां पातु हेरम्ब ऐशान्यां गणनायकः॥
Pratichyam patu Siddheshah vayavyam gajakarnakah. Udichyam patu Heramba aishanyam Gananayakah.
पश्चिम में सिद्धेश, वायव्य में गजकर्णक, उत्तर में हेरम्ब और ईशान में गणनायक रक्षा करें।
In the west may the lord of the siddhis protect; in the north-west, the elephant-eared one; in the north, Heramba; in the north-east, the lord of the ganas.
ऊर्ध्वं पातु महागणेशोऽधस्तात् पातु विघ्नहृत्। सर्वतः पातु मां देवो गणाधिपतिरव्ययः॥
Urdhvam patu Mahaganesho’dhastat patu Vighnahrit. Sarvatah patu mam devo Ganadhipatir-avyayah.
ऊपर से महागणेश और नीचे से विघ्नहर्ता रक्षा करें। अविनाशी गणाधिपति देव सब ओर से मेरी रक्षा करें।
From above may the great Ganesha protect; from below, the remover of obstacles. May the imperishable lord of the ganas protect me from every side.
रणे राजकुले द्यूते विवादे शत्रुसङ्कटे। दुर्गे गह्वरे च घोरे पातु मां गणनायकः॥
Rane rajakule dyute vivade shatrusankate. Durge gahvare cha ghore patu mam Gananayakah.
युद्ध में, राजदरबार में, जुए में, विवाद में, शत्रु-संकट में, दुर्गम स्थान और भयंकर गुफा में — गणनायक मेरी रक्षा करें।
In battle, in the royal court, in gambling, in dispute, in danger from enemies, in impassable terrain and in fearsome caves — may the lord of the ganas protect me.
इदं कवचमज्ञात्वा यो जपेत् गणनायकम्। न स सिद्धिमवाप्नोति मूढो वर्षशतैरपि॥
Idam kavacham-ajnatva yo japet gananayakam. Na sa siddhim-avapnoti mudho varshashatair-api.
जो इस कवच को जाने बिना गणनायक का जप करता है, वह मूढ़ सौ वर्षों में भी सिद्धि नहीं पाता।
Whoever recites the lord of the ganas without knowing this armour — that fool attains no accomplishment even in a hundred years.
धृत्वा तु कवचं पुण्यं सर्वसिद्धिमवाप्नुयात्। सर्वत्र विजयी भूत्वा पुत्रपौत्रसमन्वितः॥
Dhritva tu kavacham punyam sarvasiddhim-avapnuyat. Sarvatra vijayi bhutva putrapautra-samanvitah.
इस पुण्य कवच को धारण करके मनुष्य सब सिद्धियाँ पाता है, सर्वत्र विजयी होकर पुत्र-पौत्रों से युक्त होता है।
Wearing this sacred armour, one attains every accomplishment, becomes victorious everywhere, and is blessed with sons and grandsons.
गणेशस्य प्रसादेन सर्वान् कामानवाप्नुयात्। सर्वविघ्नविनिर्मुक्तः सुखी भवति मानवः॥
Ganeshasya prasadena sarvan kaman-avapnuyat. Sarvavighna-vinirmuktah sukhi bhavati manavah.
गणेश जी की कृपा से मनुष्य सब कामनाएँ पाता है और सब विघ्नों से मुक्त होकर सुखी होता है।
By Ganesha’s grace one obtains every desire, and, freed from every obstacle, a person becomes happy.
