  • बड़ा पात्र: जितना अधिक घी समाए, उतनी कम बार भरना पड़े। छोटे दीये को दिन में कई बार भरना होता है।A large reservoir: the more ghee it holds, the less often you refill. A small diya needs filling several times a day.
  • काँच का आवरण: पंखे और खिड़की की हवा से लौ को बचाता है — अखंड ज्योति के बुझने का सबसे सामान्य कारण यही हवा है।A glass chimney: shields the flame from the fan and from a window draught — the commonest reason an akhand jyoti goes out.

घी कितना लगेगाHow much ghee you will need

बिना बुझाए घी भरना और बत्ती बदलनाRefilling and changing the wick without putting it out

  • घी तब भरें जब पात्र एक-चौथाई बचा हो, ख़ाली होने का इंतज़ार न करें। जमा हुआ घी हल्का गरम करके, धार बनाकर किनारे से धीरे डालें, लौ पर नहीं।Refill when a quarter remains; do not wait for it to run dry. Warm solid ghee slightly and pour it gently down the side, never onto the flame.
  • बत्ती छोटी होने लगे तो पेंच से ऊपर करें; पूरी बदलनी हो तो पहले एक दूसरा दीया इसी ज्योति से जला लें, फिर बत्ती बदलकर उसी लौ से फिर जलाएँ।When the wick burns short, raise it with the screw; to replace it entirely, first light a second diya from this flame, then change the wick and relight from that same flame.

  • दीपक को धातु की थाली या ट्रे पर रखें, सीधे लकड़ी के मंदिर या कपड़े पर नहीं।Stand the lamp on a metal plate or tray, not directly on a wooden mandir or on cloth.
  • ऊपर और आसपास पर्दे, चुनरी, काग़ज़ या प्लास्टिक की सजावट, कृत्रिम फूल न हों। नवरात्रि की सजावट में यही सबसे अधिक होते हैं।Keep curtains, chunaris, paper or plastic decorations and artificial flowers away from above and around it. Navratri decorations are mostly exactly these.
  • बच्चे और पालतू पशु पहुँच न सकें; घर ख़ाली छोड़ना हो तो किसी को देखरेख सौंपें।Out of reach of children and pets; if the house will be empty, leave someone in charge.

यदि ज्योति बुझ जाएIf the flame goes out

असावधानी से नहीं, हवा या बत्ती के कारण भी ज्योति बुझ जाती है। अनेक परिवारों में मान्यता है कि ऐसा हो तो देवी से क्षमा-प्रार्थना करके ज्योति फिर जला दें और पूजन जारी रखें। इसमें घबराने की बात नहीं — श्रद्धा लौ की निरंतरता से अधिक मन की निरंतरता है। पूजन की पूरी विधि नवरात्रि पूजा विधि पर है।A flame goes out from a draught or a wick as often as from carelessness. In many families the understanding is that, if it does, you ask the Devi’s forgiveness, relight it and carry on with the worship. काँच की चिमनी वाला दीपक लें, पंखे की सीधी हवा और खिड़की से दूर रखें, और बत्ती बहुत ऊँची न रखें। ऊँची लौ हवा में अधिक काँपती और बुझती है।Use a lamp with a glass chimney, keep it out of the fan’s direct draught and away from windows, and do not keep the wick high. A tall flame flickers and goes out more easily.
