शुम्भ-निशुम्भ के सेनापति रक्तबीज को वरदान प्राप्त था कि उसके रक्त की हर बूँद से एक नया रक्तबीज उत्पन्न हो जाएगा। युद्ध में जब देवी दुर्गा उसका वध करने लगीं, तो उसका रक्त धरती पर गिरते ही असंख्य रक्तबीज उत्पन्न होने लगे।Raktabija, a general of the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha, had a boon that every drop of his blood that touched the ground would spring up as a new demon. When Durga fought to slay him, each drop of his falling blood multiplied into countless more Raktabijas.
इस संकट को दूर करने के लिए देवी पार्वती ने अपना काला, उग्र रूप — कालरात्रि — धारण किया और अपनी जिह्वा फैलाकर रक्तबीज का सारा रक्त धरती पर गिरने से पहले ही पी लिया, जिससे उसका अंत हो सका। नवरात्रि के सातवें दिन इनकी पूजा भय और अंधकार के नाश के लिए की जाती है।To end this crisis, Parvati took on her dark, fierce form — Kalaratri — and, spreading her tongue wide, drank up all of Raktabija’s blood before it could touch the ground, thereby ending him. She is worshipped on the seventh day of Navratri for the destruction of fear and darkness.
कब और कैसे करेंWhen and how it is observed
नवरात्रि के सातवें दिन माँ के इसी स्वरूप की पूजा होती है। कथा का पाठ घटस्थापना के बाद, ध्यान मंत्र और पूजन के साथ किया जाता है। भोग में गुड़ अर्पित करने की परंपरा है। भोग और क्रम क्षेत्र तथा परिवार-परंपरा के अनुसार भिन्न होते हैं।This form is worshipped on the seventh day of Navratri. The story is read after the Ghatasthapana, together with the dhyana mantra and the puja. The customary offering is jaggery. Offerings and order vary by region and family custom.
