Shri Bajrang Baan
After the Hanuman Chalisa, the most widely recited Hanuman text in the Hindi world, traditionally attributed to Goswami Tulsidas. The name “baan” (arrow) suits its voice: this is less a hymn of praise than a summons — the devotee, hands folded, invokes the oath of Ram to call Hanuman to come at once. The middle verses retell the Lanka episode in brief — the leap across the ocean, Sursa, Lankini, Vibhishana, the sight of Sita, the ravaged grove, the killing of Akshaya Kumara and the burning of Lanka — and then ask for protection through seed syllables such as “Om hrim hrim”, “Om hum hum” and “Om cham cham cham”. It is held especially potent against spirits, obstruction and fear. The complete text is given here with transliteration and meaning.
